After seeing the plight of the kids at the Oasis Africa Australia Kibera School at a charity fundraiser in Sydney Deni Hines decided to get involved and give these children a voice for a better future.  With a career that spans over 15 years from fronting The Rockmelons to releasing her first solo album Imagination that sold 1.3 million copies worldwide, to her recent on stage portrayal of Reno in Dusty Springfield musical and reporter role in Bruce Bereford’s Mao’s Last Dancer, Deni Hines knows how to be heard. And she is hoping her peers and fans alike will join her campaign to make a difference to the lives of the Oasis Africa Australia Kibera School children.

Kibera, located in Nairobi, Kenya is home to over 1 million people, where extended families, generally totalling 8 or more, live in small mud/stick shacks with corrugated roof and limited electricity. There are no government hospitals or clinics, no proper sewerage systems and one latrine (hole in the ground) is shared by up to 400 people. At least 50,000 AIDS orphans and vulnerable children live in Kibera and Oasis Africa Australia has set up a school in the region to help at least some of these desperate kids change their lives.

Oasis Africa Australia was established to raise awareness and funds to help create a better future for the children of Kibera through the development of community based schools which provide food, education, shelter, safety and health services. The Oasis Africa Australia Kibera School is not an orphanage, rather a private day school for primary aged kids. Every individual success story helps build a better future for the entire community.

In January 2010 Deni Hines will be travelling to Nairobi to meet and work with the children of the Oasis Africa Australia Kibera School and take over much needed funds. Not only are vital text books, chairs, tables, food, clothing always needed but Deni is hoping to provide additional infrastructure that the entire Kibera community can access as well as set up a scholarship for the graduating children to secure them a place in a secondary school and offer them hope beyond the Oasis Africa Australia Kibera School.

On Wednesday 2th December 2009 at the Waterbar, Blue Hotel, Woolloomooloo Deni Hines is joined by fellow musicians, internationally renowned artist Gabrielle Pool and celebrities a special fundraising night to help secure the future of these desperate children of Kibera. Tickets are $125 for a canapés, wine & beer and can be purchased via Kim Winter by phone on 0411 883 368 or on the website http://www.oasisafrica.net
