Melbourne Chinese New Year Festival 2011.  Welcome in the Year of the Rabbit with Lion dancers, Karaoke, Chinese food, Dragon Parade and more

The Melbourne FCA 2011 – Year of the Rabbit – Chinese New Year Festival will feature traditional and contemporary Chinese cultural activities, festivities, dances, Chinese opera and singing, karaoke competition, numerous stalls of culinary delights, arts and crafts, Chinese chess competitions, lion dances, dragon parades, calligraphy and children’s events.

Touching the Dragon will bring great luck and fortune. The Chinese Lions will be out in force and Chinatown will be abuzz with drums, firecrackers, music, singing, food and families celebrating the Year of the Rabbit.  Road closure details can be found on the City of Melbourne website.

The Millennium Dragon will be awakened to parade through the streets of Melbourne’s Chinatown and to bring hope for new fortunes and prosperity.

Welcome the Year of the Rabbit! To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Fo Guang Shan Melbourne (Buddha’s Light Mountain), one of Victoria’s largest Buddhist Temples, invites all to experience a fundamental aspect of Lunar New Year traditions – the Chinese Lunar New Year Buddhist Blessing Ceremony.

Originating from a traditional Chinese myth, the family-friendly acrobatic show, Mulan tells the story about a young girl named Hua Mulan who brings honor to her family by becoming a warrior and enters a glorifying war against the bandits. The story of Hua Mulan was adapted as a major Walt Disney animated feature film in 1998, delighting families around the world. This heartwarming story is told by an extraordinary visiting troupe of performers the Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe of China through acrobatics, dances, and artistic stage designs.
