NEW FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR HOSTS KRIS SMITH AND LEE FURLONG WILL BE TEAMING UP TO PRESENT AN AWARD AT THE 8TH ANNUAL ASTRA AWARDS

With the third series of FOX8’s ASTRA Award nominated Football Superstar having begun, new hosting team Kris Smith and Lee Furlong will have their work cut out mentoring the new group of soccer hopefuls. However, they will be taking a break for the 8th Annual ASTRA Awards later this month where they will be presenting an award.

With Kris’s first appearance on subscription television happening last week, this will be his first opportunity to attend the industry’s night of the year. He says, “With Football Superstar now airing on FOX8, I am really looking forward to going to the ASTRAs and meeting all of the incredible presenters and actors that I have enjoyed watching on TV. As the newest recruit on subscription TV it is an honour to have been asked to present an ASTRA Award this year.”

8th Annual ASTRA Awards announces Thom Filicia as a guest presenter at this year’s  “new look” awards show

Known for his fantastic taste on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy Thom is sure to make a style statement on the ASTRA Awards Red Carpet

In Sydney prior to his new series “Tacky House” airing on the Style Network on July 5th, Thom Filicia makes his debut Australian appearance as a presenter at the 8th Annual ASTRA Awards on Thursday 24th June at the State Theatre.

“It seems fitting that in a year when we are pioneering a new look ASTRA Awards show we should play host to one of America’s most popular make-over design guru’s, Thom Filicia,” said ASTRA CEO Petra Buchanan. The ASTRA Awards are always unique and exciting so adding an international dimension that showcases subscription TV’s vast content diversity, is a wonderful addition to the show. We are delighted that Thom will not only be walking the red carpet at Sydney’ iconic State theatre on June 24th but also presenting an award to our local industry.”

Tara Moss, subscription TV’s newest star, is to join the new look  ASTRA  Awards alongside   Brendon Julian and Kyle Linahan  at The State Theatre on Thursday June 24th 2010.  

The 8th Annual ASTRA Awards are pleased to announce subscription TV’s newest recruit Tara Moss will join past ASTRA Award winner Brendon Julian and VJ Kyle Linahan championing the ASTRA Awards that celebrate the production, creation and delivery of subscription television programs in Australia. All three subscription television presenters will be part of the new look, theatre style 8th Annual ASTRA Awards 90 minute show at The State Theatre on Thursday June 24th 2010.

Best-selling crime Author Tara Moss is making the move to subscription TV in 2010 as the host of Tough Nuts on the CI Network and ‘Ambassador of Crime’ for 13TH STREET. This will be Tara’s first ASTRA Awards as a presenter and as part of the subscription television industry. 

Former Australian cricketer Brendon Julian has become one of the nation’s leading sports presenters as a cricket commentator and host of ‘Inside Cricket’, the 2009 Ashes Series from England and Australia’s 2009 tour of South Africa for FOX SPORTS (Australia). Brendon won an ASTRA in 2009 for Outstanding Performance by a Presenter. 

Kyle Linahan who started his television career at Nickelodeon and last year joined Channel [V] said: “What an exciting year for me! Moving into music television has been a lifelong dream, and something that only subscription TV can offer. As an artist, the freedom and creativity in an industry such as this is phenomenal and the ASTRAs are a great celebration of that.”

To raise the profile of, the 8th Annual ASTRA Awards Tara, Brendon and Kyle will bring attention to the programs and people that subscription TV’s 7 million Australians* love to watch, shining a light on:

·         Subscription television’s exciting local original productions such as Tangle, Satisfaction, Ultimate School Musical and Tough Nuts hosted by Tara Moss

·         The new channels and content only available on subscription TV – such as STVDIO the new Arts Channel, Live music and events with VJ Kyle Linahan

The 8th Annual ASTRA Awards ceremony will take place at Sydney’s State Theatre on Thursday 24th June.
