Friday 13 September – Wednesday 18 September 2013 – A French on-air affair
Be a fly on the wall at France’s no. 1 radio station

  Feature Image
La Maison de la Radio

This quirky film exudes a certain je ne sais quoi that has become synonymous with Nicholas Philibert’s award-winning directorial style. The celebrated director of To Be and to Have (2002) has again triumphed in this beautifully crafted documentary. Philibert’s unique knack for transporting audiences into seemingly ordinary places to uncover the universal humanity that resides there is strangely captivating and entirely relatable. Set in a quirky doughnut shaped office on the river Seine – this film follows a bunch of kooky characters in a day in the life of France’s national broadcaster – France Inter. The opening sequence is cleverly edited together and provides perfect snippets of a typical busy morning at France Inter. We meet the bashful news editor, a presenter refining his skills in ‘news flashes’, a charming producer and a comical archivist, amongst others.

Philibert drops in on these characters throughout the film and manages to capture the little golden nuggets that play out in workplaces across the world making for an engaging and light-hearted film.Like a sticky wine from the vineyards of Bordeaux, this film has a certain sweetness that will linger and delight long after the credits roll.lLa Maison de la Radio runs from Thu 12 Sep to Mon 7 Oct. See the film before 7pm on a weekday and pay only $7!
