Al Di Meola World Sinfonia; Latin Jazz Fusion, World Music, New Music, 3D Music - call it what you like, but it’s bloody brilliant!
Al Di Meola and World Sinfonia kicked off their Australian tour at the City Recital Hall, Sydney with MiSociety attending the concert as ‘recruits’ and leaving as new devotees of this extraordinary line-up of musicians.
Al Di Meola more than lived up to his world wide reputation as a legendary guitarist – he, with his six piece Latin Jazz Fusion band World Sinfonia (gathered from around the world) received a deserved two standing ovations from an enthralled audience.
This is 3D music. Even when playing in complete unison each instrument is still singularly discernable – a feat rarely attainted. Meola’s absolute mastery of and string gymnastics with his electric acoustic and electric guitar left us gobsmacked. Kevin Seddiki’s Accordian sang notes seldom heard from this instrument while Gumbi Ortiz’s Percussion beats eminated from somewhere deep within his soul.
Al Di Meola and World Sinfonia produce amazing music, not just for devotees of the genre, but for anyone with an appreciative ear for the best the world has to offer.
Footnote; the acoustics in the City Recital Hall are excellent allowing us to hear Al Di Meola in the best possible circumstances.
