Alfred Stieglitz Exhibition Opening at AGNSW
16 June 2010
Alfred Stieglitz photographs – Australian premier exhibition
Photographer Albert Stieglitz’s first ever exhibition in Australia was opened at the Art Gallery of New South Wales by Judith R. Fergin, Consul General of the USA.
Director of the Gallery, Edmond Capon’s opening remarks were in his usual entertaining style. Quoting Stieglitz’s line “photography is my passion and the search for truth my obsession”. Edmond commented that “it was surprising that ‘truth’ hasn’t been found considering how many people have been looking for it”.
Edmond threw in a piece of his own truth gifting the quests with the scoop that – from May 2011 and for the first time in the NSWAG’s history they will feature a dedicated area and permanent home for photographic works.
Judith R. Fergin said Stieglitz was an amazing artist whose life spanned the assasination of Abraham Lincoln through to the end of World War II. The exhibition features some 150 photographs. Further information
