Angus and Coote cut the ribbon on their new flagship store in Sydney
Angus and Coote have been in Australia for 115 years and if you asked a man/woman in the street to name the first Australian watch and jewellery store that popped into their heads – it would likely be Angus and Coote.
The opening of the chandeliered and sparkling new flagship Angus and Coote store in Sydney Central Plaza, Pitt Street Mall, was a big deal for the company. So much so that heads of some of the major watch companies in the world jetted across the globe to join in on this huge party.
‘Marilyn’ even made an appearance. ‘Marilyn’ turned out to be Christine Berkley who is actually a quite new employee of Angus and Coote. We say ‘new’ as from our investigations it seems that Angus and Coote have many employees who have been with the company for ten years plus. We reckon that the mark of any company is the loyalty of their staff and Angus and Coote certainly appear to have that judging from the enthusiasm shown at this launch party.
Models wearing Angus and Coote jewels worked the room as caricaturists furiously captured guests on paper while the jazz band had everyone humming.
A replica pair of the ornate scissors made by Angus and Coote in 1932 to open the Sydney Harbour Bridge, were used by Katarina Kroslakova, Editor of Life & Leisure and the Australian Financial Review and David Norman, owner of Angus and Coote, to officially cut their own opening ribbon on the night. Amusingly the blades on these heritage scissors had not stood the test of time and another pair were ushered in to fulfill the duty.
The ‘Cootie’ gift bags were extremely generous with one lucky recipient walking away with big $$ diamond earings.
