Art Melbourne Art Fair Opening Night party – what a perfect way to enjoy a cold Melbourne Friday evening. Whether you were coming straight from work, making a real night of it, a true art connoisseur or a curious novice, the Affordable Art Fair 2011 opening night party was the place to be – and I just loved it.
The Royal Exhibition Building is indeed a work of art in itself and I was fortunate enough to be invited to enjoy the buzz on the opening night of this popular annual event.
The Art Melbourne Affordable Art Fair concept is to allow the general public the opportunity to view a massive range of art all in one place. Some people may associate fine quality art as being outside their financial considerations but at Melbourne’s Affordable Art Fair, there is a treasure trove of diversity and there really is something for everyone’s budget and taste.
The Melbourne Royal Exhibition building was ablaze with art and there were so many serious contenders from the creative world on show here I didn’t know quite where to start.
Australian artists are well represented alongside the artistic talents of a number of international artists – all showcasing their work under the one roof.
David Bromley’s work grabbed by attention immediately knowing his work so well as his artistic mastery is particularly favoured by a collector friend of mine. David’s recognisable work was creating quite a stir in an already electric environment.
Spain’s Fernando Alday’s work had me lingering long and I just loved the work of the artists featured in the ultra-edgy and contemporary Urban Uprising Gallery and Ian Dawson Galleries of Sydney.
Melbourne locals should definitely pencil Art Melbourne 2011 into their calendars and if you’re a tourist or visitor to Melbourne, this event is a great way to get a real feel for modern Australian art and to visit the historical Melbourne Royal Exhibition Building
Art Melbourne Affordable Art Fair 2011 runs from 19th May to 22nd May 2011.
