Australian Geographic Society honours Bob Brown with Lifetime of Conservation Award 2012
The Australian Geographic Society annual awards presentations honour those devoted to conservation and those that continue the great Aussie legacy of ‘adventure’.  The Australian Geographic Society (AGS) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2012 with a ‘full house’ dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney coupling it with their annual Awards to those giants that make the rest of us feel like under achievers.

Dr Bob Brown was all smiles as he accepted his Lifetime of Conservation Award 2012 from Australian Geographic Society Trustee Todd Tai.  Bob spoke of his next challenge in life – the protection of part of Western Australia’s Kimberley region from proposed gas drilling.

Kim Hands winner of the 2012 Young Conservationist of the Year accepted her Award for her work with the ‘Stop the Toad’ Foundation.  Kim’s a speech drew a huge response from guests with her parents Beth and John Hands barely able to contain their pride.

Peter FitzSimons set the all time ‘time record’ for his animated and passionate talk on one of Australia’s greatest geologists and explorers, Douglas Mawson, who is the subject of Peter’s latest book.  Peter’s ability to talk for some 30 minutes without taking and breath and still keeping his audience enthralled is astounding.
