Australian Geographic Society awards three millennials amongst top ten winners in 2016

The Australian Geographic Society Gala Awards for 2016 at The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth garnered together an elite list of the hierarchy of this nations highest achievers in adventure, conservation and science.

Chrissie Goldrick, Editor in Chief of Australian Geographic Magazine, enthusiastically welcomed guests to the 29th annual AG Society Gala Awards prior to journalist Ray Martin taking on the M.C. role. Each recipient of an award enthralled us all with their inspiring insights into the feats that contributed to their accolades from the AG Society.

Dr David Suzuki, world renown scientist and environmentalist, had the room spellbound as he delivered an address encompassing his wisdom and experience appertaining to the environment and its sustainability.

Jade Hameister at 14 years of age became the youngest person to trek to the North Pole thus winning her the Young Adventurer of the Year Award in 2016. Jade’s acceptance speech included some profound words for one so young that are so pertinent for today – including these words “young people should shift focus from how they appear to what they can do”.  Three millennials were amongst this year’s top ten winners.

The AG Society Gala Awards are Australia’s longest-running awards celebrating adventure and conservation. Annually through grants, fundraising and sponsorships the AGS donates over $300,000 to Australian conservation and adventure activities.

The financial support granted by the AG Society to achievers in the nominated fields of adventure, achievement and conservation would not be possible without the tireless work of those behind the Society.

MiSociety would like to commend the amazing work of the current AGS Awards Committee, Chrissie Goldrick, Jo Runciman, Lyn Tuit, Rebecca Cotton and Trustee Todd Tai, one of the organisers of this outstanding event.

But of course the Gala Awards night could not happen without the generous support of the main Partner APT and the Category sponsors – Bremont, World Expeditions, Odyssey, Australian Geographic and Bauer Media Group.

The Australian Geographic Society Gala Awards event is one of the most inspiring and enjoyable events of the year in Sydney and MiSociety would like to urge you all to be sure to book early for next year’s event.
