The Australian Geographic Society Awards 2010 were a real buzzy affair
Winners of the 2010 Australian Geographic Society Awards 2010 were announced at a ‘full house’ dinner at Sydney’s Sofitel Hotel.
Buzz Aldrin along with his glam wife Lois were guests of honour as the octogenarian astronaut was there to collect his Honorary Lifetime of Adventure Award. Surrounded by security Buzz and Lois were positioned at the front table as the fundraising auction commenced with two offers of a photo both with Buzz and signed by him going for $3,000 each.
Buzz and Lois certainly created extra interest for the awards helping to boost ticket sales to support fundraising for the Society.
The Australian Geographic Society Awards recognise people with an adventurous spirit who have achieved great things.
The winners are:
Lifetime of Conservation -Mary White
Lifetime of Adventure – Lincoln Hall
Spirit of Adventure – Alex Vail, Tane Sinclair-Taylor and Joshua Stewart
Young Adventurer of the Year – Jessica Watson (award accepted by her mother and brother)
Young Conservationist of the Year – Simon Cherriman
Conservationist of the Year – Trevor Evans
Adventurer of the Year – Linda Beilharz
Honorary Lifetime of Adventure – Buzz Aldrin
