Bar 100 , Sydney’s latest mega bar, scores a ten out of eight
Bar 100 launch party had 600 (plus) of Sydney’s party people descending into The Rocks area to celebrate hard for the opening night of Sydney’s latest mega bar. The three storey heritage-listed building was absolutely heaving throughout its four bars (including The Chapel that was once the Mariner’s Church built in 1854), VIP lounge, restaurant and open air terraces.
Jessica Mauboy, complete with dance troupe, bought the house down while various performers seemed to be popping up all over just to keep party goers entertained as they moved from floor to floor and through the labyrinth or rooms. A sequinned Bree Robertson had MiSociety and the surrounding crowd particularly fascinated as she knotted and unknotted her limbs with great aplomb on stage (ouch).
The grandeur of the venue and its new $13 million fit-out could not even be overshadowed by the scene of a giant passenger liner leaving the adjacent Overseas Passenger Terminal.
Bar 100 was previously The Rawson Institute for Seamen and is one of Sydney’s most historic sites. The refurbishment has brought back to life the beautiful internal sandstone walls and towering high ceilings making it now likely one of Australia’s most impressive drinking holes.
The Kazal brothers (all eight of them) are behind the new venture that has caused some controversy on its road to fruition but none of this appeared to faze any of the enthusiastic throng at the official launch party.
