Bitter & Twisted and huge fun
Ex inmates of Maitland Goal could never have dreamed that one day people would flock to their goal in the name of ‘fun’ and ‘good times’.
The Bitter & Twisted International Beer Festival is working its way to becoming the best beer festival in Australia in the unique setting of the old goal. MiSociety had never ‘been to gaol’ before and it was fascinating to have the opportunity to actually visit the cells and inmate areas.
This festival is an innovative and very Australian idea and even though the weather on the Sunday was a little damp at times it still didn’t stop beer lovers coming in droves to sample a huge range of beers from all over the world. This was a seriously interested ’captive audience’ here taking in beer master classes and food matching classes. No drunken ‘yobs’ here just happy ’inmates’ enjoying the beer, the food, entertainment and terrific music. Don’t miss this next year and get in early as accommodation books out fast.
MiSociety stayed at the Windsor Castle Hotel which has to be one of the best ‘value for money’ accommodation houses in the Hunter Valley. Just three years old this three star hotel has a four star attitude with a nice contemporary feel and very comfortable rooms. The restaurant at the Windsor Hotel serves up some delicious, excellent ( and huge) meals that are again excellent value.
