From the Saddle or Travel – the reality!  by  Capt’n Cork n Cruisin’ Cate

Hi Troops & Comrades (a salutation based on Russian protocol),

We were warned it would be 38`C+ and it didn’t disappoint.  Beyond the temp the bushfire smoke has reduced visibility to 100m in Moscow town.  This stuffs up photography but postcard sales have rocketed (so have face masks) – the Muslims have a head start (sorry bad pun!) Continue Reading »

Hi team,  STOCKHOLM:-  The cruise finishes here for everyone (except that strange breed who live as permanent passengers–subject to negotiation, I estimate over US$400k per annum + drinks)

Settlement of one’s on board account is done subtly but there’s no way anyone could “duck out the back, Jack!!”, it was entertaining to watch the process unfold suggesting that “doing a runner” is not foreign to cruise operators. Continue Reading »

23 – 24 July 2010  Field testing the canons in Singapore
Hi Troops, we decided to field test the canons in Singapore for about36 hours. Yes, the powder was dry and (at least) my cannon ‘popped’–pathetic really. Continue Reading »

When thousands of tourists descend on these popular destinations, the art of push, shove and get in front has been honed to a craft and some of these ten tonners are unstoppable. Continue Reading »

30 May 2009      The Bridge Bugle Blasts On
Hi troops, we are ‘steaming’ ahead at a very few ‘nots’ (sic). We are under a good luck charm with the weather too. Must have rubbed some Buddha’s paunch correctly.

“GOOD AFTERNOON! THIS IS THE CAPTAIN SPEAKING FROM THE BRIDGE” this greeting sounded from every speaker on the ship, bow to stern, top deck to bilge. “ WE HAVE A SERIOUS INCREASED INCIDENCE OF A HIGHLY CONTAGEOUS GASTRO-INTESTINAL VIRAL ATTACK.

25 May 2009  Ahoy! Nay a pirate in sight

Almost anti-climactic. Especially after we had pirate attack drill. That was heralded by 5 hoots and a command to return to your cabin, draw the curtain and hide under the bed. No hero medals likely from that quarter.. Continue Reading »

19 May 2009
Greetings,
MORE OBSERVATIONS FROM THE BRIDGE.
India, done but not dusted!!—the joint is filthy—beetlenut gozzie streaked down the taxi driver’s door—for openers!–Should I go on? No!!,  in the interests of reasonable sensibilities.
I am, however, led by anthropological curiosity, to endorse the circa 30k BC migratory link , to our own indigenous race.  Skin and hair (texture and colour), facial features, slender limbs, voice pitch & tongue speed. Continue Reading »

21 May 2009 – Life on the High Seas ,

Well, what can one say about India?????  First stop Cochin.  The shipping terminal is on an island which was created (land fill) by the British during their colonization.  Being the oldest European settlement in India, you see Portuguese and Dutch mansions and palaces plus Tudor style mansions as well.
