Johnnie Walker held its annual Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix party on Saturday evening, 14th March, at a different venue this year but it did not disappoint.

Emerson Rooftop was buzzing with VIP guests, TV personalities, business people, fashion models and media journos and bloggers from 7pm until the early hours of the morning. Among guests enjoying themselves over Johnnie Walker scotch whiskey and canapés, were Channel 9’s Clint Stanaway, Nova’s Dean (Deano) Thomas, Model Justin Lacko, Couture Designer Craig Braybrook, Big Brother’s Leo (Ryan) Burke, Australian Swimmers Travis Mahoney and Ash Delaney, Australian Cricketer Adam Gilchrist and the Formula1 Grand Prix RAAF Roulettes.

Brodie Young, event host, brought Johnnie Walker to life in his top hat and tails and of course a Johnnie Walker party is not complete without an entourage of golden girls and a menu of tantalizing whiskey cocktails to choose from.

Melbourne offers a weekend of exclusive events for locals and tourists during the Formula 1 Grand Prix every year and the Johnnie Walker Penthouse Party continues to be a highlight.

Johnnie Walker and Hugo Boss Australian F1 Grand Prix celebration at The Blackman, Melbourne

March 19th, 2014

Johnnie Walker, Hugo Boss & The Blackman F1 Australian Grand Prix Party. Writer: Renee StahPhotos: APL Photography & Helen Reizer.
Melbourne, 13 March 2014.

Formula 1 driver Jenson Button opens the hottest Grand Prix party above the track.

Johnnie Walker, Hugo Boss and The Blackman Hotel hosted a magnificent four-day event over the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend with an invite-only, triple-A guest list of celebrities, social identities and models on Thursday evening, including a special appearance by McLaren Mercedes Formula One Driver Jenson Button, who officially opened the celebration.

The Blackman Art Series Hotel in St Kilda Road Melbourne, promised the ‘hottest location above the track’ and delivered on that promise; its penthouses magnificently styled to accommodate guests, in luxury, and to illuminate the eminent brands that hosted the event.

Jenson Button oozed charm from the minute he arrived at the penthouse. Apart from the adrenalin rush one feels in his presence knowing he races cars at mind-blowing speeds, Jenson Button is a six-foot-tall handsome British sportsman, who emanates an alluring personality as he addresses a room. During a quick Q&A, Button gave The Blackman Hotel a thumbs up for spoiling guests with such an amazing view of the racetrack and, he wasn’t wrong.

The Blackman Hotel was an absolutely stunning venue for the party, especially as the sun set over the lakeside racetrack and whisky glasses glistened on the balcony. Guests enjoyed great weather, canapés and Johnnie Walker tastings.

Johnnie Walker showcased its finest whisky across two penthouses, one dedicated to Johnnie Walker Blue Label® and the other to Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve™. Served either straight, on the rocks or in cocktail fusions of honey, apricot or ginger beer, Johnnie Walker whisky was free flowing but not without the safety of guests in mind, #iamnotdriving incorporated in its displays.

HUGO BOSS models adorned the room dressed in latest Hugo Boss fashion. Cameras flashed all night as models, celebrities and socialites mingled and were entertained by DJs Lauren Mac and Grant Smilie. Elvis Aljius played funky Latin beats on his drums and television host and entertainer Brodie Young, true to Johnnie Walker’s ‘Keep Walking’ slogan, added much fun to the night dressed in top hat, tales and gentleman’s cane.

Art Series Hotel Sales and Marketing Director Ryan Tuckerman deservingly sported a smile from ear to ear; it was a superb event with the some of Australia’s hottest guests: Alex Fevola, Shaynna Blaze, Rhonda Burchmore, Clint Stanaway, Vincent Fantauzzo, Em Rusciano, Rhys Uhlich, Nick Vindin, Ash Delaney and many more talented and fabulous.

Hugo Boss, Johnnie Walker and The Blackman Hotel celebrated the beginning of the Australian Grand Prix with such style and grandeur, it could easily have been a party to mark the beginning of the entire 2014 Formula 1 season.

Mr Miyagi Japanese Restaurant Launch Party Melbourne

October 17th, 2013

Melbourne 15 October 2013
Mr Miyagi Japanese Restaurant Launch Party Melbourne
Story;  Renee Stah     Photography; APL Photography

Mr Miyagi says ‘don’t ig-nori this invite’.

Mr Miyagi is a name I have always loved. Of course it all started with the movie Karate Kid, but then it became the nickname for my remedial masseuse. The nickname was quite fitting since he is in his late 60s, a Thai Chi instructor, relieves my aches and pains, and is a wise man who is great to talk to.

Japanese restaurant with amazing food and cocktails is what Mr Miyagi means to me now. On Tuesday 15th October, in Melbourne’s famous Chapel Street, the gorgeously presented and cleverly branded Mr Miyagi Japanese restaurant was launched. The exclusive event satisfied my appetite for Japanese food and had me sipping on fruity cocktails and talking to many interesting people.

Eades and Bergman created the neon love heart, funky lighting and overall interior design and fitout of the restaurant which on the night, was visited by some of Melbourne’s most well-known foodies and restaurateurs including Marvin Holder from Vue de Monde and Matteo Bruno from Meatball and Wine Bar.

Zilla and Brook, well known for their successful food and lifestyle events, organised the invite-only VIP launch which offered a piquant selection of Japanese inspired food including Sushi, MFC (Miyagi Fried Chicken), mushroom skewers and David Chang’s Ramen Gnocchi Wagyu Bolognese.

Japanese beer and delicious cocktails like ‘Astro Boy’ (strawberry, fresh ginger, white chocolate & Sake) and my favourite for the evening ‘Hello Kitty Sour’ (Shochu, nashi pear, sweet lychee & egg white) were perfect for the warm weather we had in Melbourne on the night.

Mr Miyagi’s restaurant staff were friendly and discerning, ensuring guests had enough to eat, drink and that they had a great time. As the night came to an end, they handed each guest a sealed envelope. Its contents were a copy of the menu, five things to know about Sake and a card that read: “Mr. M says if you can read this you need another drink.” I giggled thinking, what a successful launch. Mr Miyagi not only had me smiling on my way home, I will always remember the name, and the food and cocktails were delicious.

I will definitely head back to Mr Miyagi when I feel like Japanese. After all, “Mrs. M says, you want to look good in your dress? You order the sashimi!”

Bar Nacional Launch Party in Collins Square, Melbourne Docklands

Celebrity chefs join forces to bring Spain to Melbourne at Bar Nacional.

Pete Evans, Australian Celebrity Chef and cookbook author has joined forces with American Chef Gavin Baker and Lang Walker of Walker Corporation to create a high quality lunch, dining, catering and ‘after work drink’ destination in Melbourne’s Collins Square. On Thursday 10th October, the chef duo officially opened Bar Nacional, the first restaurant to open in Collins Square, located at 727 Collins Street Docklands.

Bar Nacional is a Spanish Restaurant with an impressive menu and outdoor area perfect for summer. At the launch, the restaurant was filled with guests enjoying tapas and sangria all evening. Waiters gave detailed descriptions of each dish and guests were able to savour Bar Nacional flavours with gifts of marinated Spanish olives and bite size deserts to take home.

Clint Stanaway, Channel Nine’s Sports Journalist and local to Collins Square, loved the pork belly and was thrilled to see such a great restaurant so close to the studio. Dan Anstey from Nova enjoyed the selection of cold meats, and there wasn’t a guest at Bar Nacional that evening, who didn’t devour the delicious ice cream and cinnamon desert, which superbly finished off the event’s menu selection.

Gavin Baker and Pete Evans mingled with guests and foodies to discuss the menu and their upcoming projects. They proudly introduced their power team of chefs as the best in the business and Pete Evans shared that Collins Square will also be home to an Italian Restaurant called Chiara, another Evans/Baker/Walker project.

John Olsen, one of Australia’s most significant artists, painted the amazing piece ‘King Sun’ that is the feature of the Collins Square lobby and visible from Bar Nacional.

Collins Square is a multi million dollar mixed use commercial development that is surrounded by large corporate headquarters such as Myer and Channel Nine and is anticipated to become the heart of Melbourne City.
