February 12, 2010

  • From 6:30pm
  • Free
Release your inner tiger and celebrate the launch of the Chinese New Year Festival and the first night of the Festival Markets with a night of exclusive performances, roving entertainers, lion dances, fireworks and Asian food stalls.
Witness the ancient and magical ‘face changing’ performance by visiting artists from Chongqing City in China. Performers wear brightly coloured masks which they change within a fraction of second. The performers will appear exclusively for the Festival Launch.
Enjoy a contemporary dance performance by Chen Wen of Sydney Dance Company. Two dancers will draw on the energy of the Tiger and pay homage to the ancient Yin Yang symbol.
Ancient Wushu martial art blends effortlessly with hip hop in a performance by young Sydney artists.
A DJ and VJ will carry on the celebrations with music and art displayed on a big screen in Belmore Park.
