Christmas in July at Bondi Beach will have an icy but colourful transformation when hundreds of Santa suited skating enthusiasts take to the ice on a pop-up ice rink in an attempt to set the world record for skating Santas to aid Variety.

Christmas in July Santas on Ice for a world record attempt  is part of The Lipton Chai Latte Winter Festival and will officially launch the 2012 Variety Santa Fun Run where thousands of people dressed as Santa will run through Sydney streets all to raise money for Aussie kids in need.

Variety Santa Fun Run is not until later in the year, families, friends and work colleagues are encouraged to head to Bondi Beach on the night of July 11th to get into the spirit on the pop up ice rink. For just $10 for adults and $5 for kids, participants can get their own Santa suits and take to the ice rink to be part of the world record attempt.

Variety is hoping the entire pop up ice rink will become a sea of skating Santas and break the current record of 142 ‘Skiing Santas’ held by the UK. The night will also feature a host of fun family entertainment hosted by MC Mike Goldman, including a special performance from iStage, a theatre on ice team performing a special Christmas rendition and a guest appearance by the big red jolly man himself! The evening is part of the Lipton Chai Latte Winter Festival in Bondi for which Variety, the Children’s Charity is the official partner.

Variety Santa Fun Run 2012 will take place on Sunday November 25th, with the five kilometre run set to start from Palm Grove, Darling Harbour and finish at Tumbalong Park.
