Cinderella at Sydney’s State Theatre review – MiSociety
Kids young and old eagerly crammed the State Theatre Sydney for the opening night of Cinderella – and they weren’t disappointed. In good ól ‘panto’ style the audience cheered, booed and ‘warned’ to this fast paced and rumbustious ‘new-age’ production by Bonnie Lythgoe with all the fun, fantasy and frivolity of the timeless classic.
Internationally acclaimed comedian, Kev Orkian as Buttons, kept the audience participation on the boil throughout as Jaime Hadwen as Cinderella dazzled in true fairy-tale costumes whilst charming Prince Charming (Tim Maddren). Loved Lara Mulcahy as the ‘tell it like it is’ Fairy Godmother with Craig Bennet and Josh Adamson portraying the Ugly Sisters in a riot of humour and colour. Gina Liano’s debut performance as the Wicked Stepmother was well cast against the kindly Baron Hardup played by TV host and media personality, Peter Everett.
Give yourselves (oh and the kids) a treat and enjoy a show that transports back to an enchanting world of escapism with not a nasty in sight.
