This Cloud Street looks set to have a ’Gold’ lining
Cloudstreet, the television mini-series, Sydney launch party was only outfoxed by the trailer for the six parter that gave us a tantalising insight into what we believe, may turn out to be a milestone in Australian television.
The Flying Fish Restaurant on Jones Bay Wharf for this swish ‘do’ became a trip into nostalgia land. Boy attendants were decked out in baggies with braces and topped off with homburgs while the girls circled with drinks parading their coiffed and floraled post war garb. Old wares adorned as a piano man tinkled tunes from the 40’s and 50’s, the era the series is based upon. Meanwhile ‘Mimi Galah’ held a cheeky bird’s eye view of proceedings from her caged viewpoint.
Cloudstreet may be based on life’s struggles but this night was about celebration. The air was rife with jubilation and the major factor conveyed to us by the cast and crew being about the camaraderie and formed friendships that had emanated from the making of the show. Although the show is based on times past it looks certain to be the launch pad for some exciting Australian stars of the future.
Tim Winton received the Miles Franklin Award in 1992 for his novel ‘Cloudstreet’ that chronicles the lives of two working class Australian families (the Pickles and the Lambs) cohabitating at One Cloud Street in Dalkeith, Perth WA.
The cast of Cloudstreet includes; Emma Booth as Rose Pickles, Lara Robinson as young Rose Pickles, Todd Lasance as Quick Lamb, Geoff Morrell as Lester Lamb, Hugo Johnstone-Burt as Fish Lamb, Essie Davies as Dolly Pickles, Stephen Curry as Sam Pickles, Sean Keenan as Ted Pickles, Will Mattock as the young Ted Pickles, Kerry Fox as Oriel Lamb. Matthew Saville is the Director.
MiSociety rates the Cloudstreet launch as one of the top parties to date this year.
Cloudstreet will premiere on Sunday 22 May at 8.30pm AEST on Showcase for FOXTEL and AUSTAR – don’t miss it.

Looking terrific! Should like to see and know, who all those secondary cast are too!
Hi Brian
The Cloudstreet launch party was a big night with some very excited cast and crew all jumping in and out of photos. We always try to only publish ‘named’ photos but with the ‘group shot’ it was absolutely impossible to add all the names in any kind of correct order.
As we have said, from the trailer we viewed on the night Cloudstreet looks to be a show with actors that will make the 2012 Logies a worthwhile event. – MiSociety
I sincerely thank you for your kind response….What a magnificently sublime production this is proving to be!..Keeping watch out for that up and coming actor TONY GOLD….Congrats to everyone involved in and with our dear Tim Winton’s CLOUDSTREET……Brian Scott.
