Looking for a career in fashion design? Your opportunities have been enormously enhanced by the arrival in Sydney of ESMOD, the prestigious French fashion college founded in Paris in 1841.
ESMOD has just opened in a beautifully renovated industrial building in Surry Hills, Sydney – its first campus in an English speaking country. ESMOD will offer a three year Australian qualification with graduates awarded an International Diploma at the conclusion of the course. This is an International Fashion Qualification recognised around the world and a passport to the 8,000 strong International ESMOD alumini network.
ESMOD (l’Ecole Superieure des arts et Techniques de la Mode) offers Fashion Design and Technology courses for local and overseas students. They will also offer short courses for industry professionals and for people looking to explore their creative potential.
The newly renovated campus building will also be opened up for industry product launches and exhibitions. One such venture already sees ESMOD Australia, house exhibits from the Darnell Collection of vintage couture clothing and accessories. The Darnell collection – spanning 200 years of fashion – is the largest private collection of clothes in Australia and comprises 3,500 pieces including haute couture by Channel, Christian Dior, Vionnet, Jean Patou and Lucille, antique and designer dresses, undergarments and accessories. The private collection is owned and curated by Blue Mountains resident, Charlotte Smith. Sydney fashion designers and students will now be able to gain access to this unique private collection.
The grand opening night showcased the campus building and the Darnell Collection, with assembled guests so obviously impressed with both. To add further sparkle to proceedings, we were treated to a dazzling fashion show with the models wearing the latest creations of designer Yu Konishi of Studio FantastiK. Yu cleverly adorned the models with large earings and bracelet accessories in the shape of the Eiffel Tower thus reflecting back to where it all started for ESMOD – Paris.
The great Magnet PR team delivered an event to remember and guests were treated to some terrific party food by Surry Hills caterers Lumiere.
Salvation Army personnel were invited to collect donations for the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal on the night.
