A celebrity Twenty20 Cricket Match is just one of the family fun events planned for next Friday evening, February 26th as a new look Manly Oval is unveiled to the public.
Rugby League players such as Hazem El Mazri and Cliff Lyons, will join forces with the likes of ex Olympian Melinda GainsfordTaylor and local politicians Mike Baird and Michael Regan to take on the forces of sporting greats such as fast bowler Michael Kasprowericz, Wallabies Coach Robbie Deans and Olympic medallist Andrew Lauterstein.
Members of the public are encouraged to come along to the match, with UtlraTune Manly offering $100 to the first five spectators in each innings who manage to catch a six.
“This is going to be a wonderful event as we celebrate the installation of these fantastic new lights” said Mayor Hay.  “We all know that Manly Oval is one of the best grounds in Sydney” said Mayor Hay. “And now with the beautiful white picket fence surrounding it and these new lights shining from above, it simply looks spectacular”.
“The installation of the lights is a project that local sporting groups, particularly the Manly Council Sports Facilities Committee, the Manly Warringah Cricket Club and the Manly Rugby Club have been working tirelessly on over the years and Council is thrilled to be able to help out with the project” said Mayor Hay.
The installation of the new lights was made possible through the provision of grant funding to Manly Council from the NSW Department of Climate Change and the Environment and will ensure that Manly Oval remains a popular venue for players and spectators alike.
A program of events begins from 3pm with the main game scheduled to start at 6:15pm. The program is available from Council’s website at www.manly.nsw.gov.au The lights will be officially switched on during a ceremony between the innings.
