Two Martins create a dazzling collection and a sparkling party
Fairfax & Roberts Jewellers in Martin Place Sydney, launched their ‘Martin Collection’ jewellery range with a society party that transported us back into the golden era to when style was meticulously created. Our first clue that this bash would carry the ‘flash’ factor was the Daily Telegraph editions dated 17 May 1929 obscuring the Fairfax & Roberts entire window frontage.
A stately vintage car heralded the entrance to the Art Deco exterior of the Fairfax & Roberts Castlereagh Street emporium leading us into the majestic interior that had taken on the aura and audio of the 1930’s. As shadowy, projected figures jitterbugged across the wall waiters circled the Moet and rumours spread as to what we were in store for.
Thierry Martin, complete with top hat and (unlit) cigar, was introduced as the designer of Fairfax and Roberts new ‘Martin Collection’. French born Thierry explained that he drew his inspiration from Sydney’s Martin Place 1930’s architecture for this range of geometric and curbilinear rings, pendants, bracelets and earrings, all sparkling with gold, diamonds and gemstones.
Andrew Bukenya cut a dash through the room in his dazzling white retro tuxedo and his swing time, velvety voice as dancers swung and swayed around the floor while guests studied the ‘Martin Collection’ that had just been dramatically revealed for the first time.
Super to see some creative style in the Sydney social scene – well done.
