Fashion Palette was a new innovation staged at the Exhibition centre in Sydney towards the end of the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Week 2009. It’s a concept where aspiring fashion designers (and there’s sure plenty of them) and others interested in the fashion industry generally can learn career experiences and advice from established designers and fashion figures.
The ‘launch’ party, held at the popular Cargo Bar at Kings Street Wharf, drew an enthusiastic crowd. Sadly, it also drew every camera owning ‘student’ photographer in town, many of whom need to learn some basic rules on social and professional etiquette judging by their behavior during the opening speech by Sonya Mefaddi, Founder and Director of Fashion Palette.
The afters party on the Saturday night at Sydney’s ‘GPO’ Bar swelled with even larger numbers of wannabe designers. Unfortunately the ground level runway show was very difficult to view as MiSociety would have liked to have bought you more images of ‘young designer’ fashions.
As well as the usual ‘bubbles’ on offer there was an interesting alternative, ‘Upsynth’, a bubbling alcopop that contains Austrian absinth. It seems to be finding its way around the fashion industry parties lately and we must admit it makes a nice change.
This was the inaugural ‘Fashion Palette’ and, judging by the enthusiasm of those at both parties, it could have a big future.
