Blue Mountains Shakespeare Festival at the National Trust’s Everglades Gardens and Norman Lindsay Gallery, Faulconbridge

  • 8 – 29 January 2011

As You Like It,  Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream
The open-air Leura Shakespeare festival will be returning to the Blue Mountains for another bold, passionate and imaginative season in January 2011.

Held in Australia’s only purpose built outdoor Shakespeare venue, the National Trust’s Everglades Gardens, the 2010 festival debuted to more than 1500 people over just two weekends.

“The response to last year’s festival was overwhelming and hugely encouraging,” Artistic Director Damien Ryan said. “We’re very excited to perform again for this deeply artistic local community and the visitors who come to share these wonderful stories with us.”

In 2011, The National Trust and Sport for Jove Theatre will present an expanded season of three productions over four weekends in January, both at Everglades Gardens and for the first time at the iconic Norman Lindsay Gallery, Faulconbridge.

“Both of these venues are among the most stunning locations for outdoor theatre anywhere in the world. They are the perfect settings in which to enjoy a picnic and a bottle of wine with these extraordinary works under the summer mountains sky,” Mr Ryan said.

“These three plays are all magnificent stories of young women who defy the rules to chase their heart’s desires. They explore the ecstasies and torments of love, and combine some of Shakespeare’s most dazzling action and fight sequences with his most compellingly beautiful language and humour.”
