All Jazzed up at the Palais Theatre for the Melbourne Internation Jazz Festival 2011
Fly Me ToThe Moon premiered at the Palais Theatre St Kilda to an enthusiastic and jazz savvy crowd as an opener to the 14th Melbourne International Jazz Festival. While crowds braved the chill in Federation Square in the heart of Melbourne for the free Jazz Festival kick off party there, Jazz enthusiasts snuggled in at the historic Palais Theatre for this one off concert.
MiSociety joined connections and sponsors of the Jazz Festival who gathered for a pre-concert get-together, nibbles and drinks at the upper level bar. Once more we met ‘moonlighters’ from Sydney taking in the Melbourne music and theatre scene.
The Sam Keevers Trio members, Sam Keevers (piano), Brett Hirst (bass) and Simon Barker (drums) starred on stage along with Australian vocalists Tex Perkins, Paris Wells, Eddie Perfect and Kimbra….

Jazz classics including Moon River, I Put a Spell on You, Blueberry Hill and a swag of other fuzzy favourites from the popular ABC release, ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, took on a new life being re-interpreted and re-phased by the contemporary line-up of singers.
Kimbra’s vocal gymnastics and tonal variations bought a huge response from the audience while Paris Wells’ Marilynesque stage persona was in stark contrast to the gravelly laconic Tex Perkins and the geed up Eddie Perfect.
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival line-up for 2011 is hitting the high notes with so much on offer all over Melbourne for all tastes and demographics and continues till 13 June 2011. Further info on the 2011 Melbourne Jazz Festival Melbourne Jazz Festival 2011
