Gilbert and George in discussion with Edmund Capon
Gilbert and George, two visiting artists from the U.K. sat down at the AGNSW for a discussion with Edmund Capon, Director of the NSW Art Gallery.
Gilbert and George were bought to Australia by fabric man John Kaldor, who is know for his love of avant guard art and who was also responsible for bringing here Christo who then proceeded to wrap up part of Sydney’ foreshore in plastic.
Edmund asked the pair a number of un-threatening questions about their lifestyle and philosophy. Seems they always eat in the same Turkish restaurant every evening (fascinating) and they have not been inside a museum for 30 years.
I reckon they are certainly a couple of eccentrics but they are considered two of the United Kingdom’s top contemporary artists of today.
