Glenfiddich, Pioneers, Helicopters and a Cocktail Challenge
Glenfiddich is famous as a single malt Scotch Whisky and has been around since 1887. So, when the clever people behind the brand decided to hold a cocktail mixing competition they decided that the obvious thing to do was to match the cocktails with other ‘Famous Pioneers’ .
Pioneers as diverse as Nick Cave, Odysseus, Burke and Wills, Vasco De Gama, Tom Waits and Johnny Appleseed (he pioneered growing apples in America apparently) to name a few were chosen for the ten finalist bartenders to match a cocktail with.
Finals day for the contestants had all ten bartenders out at St Alban’s when time became short. So, what else could be done to get the troupe back to the Old Growler Bar in time for the Awards Party but to ferry them all back by helicopters.
Evan Stanley took out first place for his Nick Cave cocktail but to be honest after endeavouring to work through the selection of the competition cocktails served at the party one wonders how one could be selected over another. These cocktails were no sugary affairs loaded up with ice and mixers they were created to showcase the main ingredient – the Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
