Golden slippers may not be the hot fashion tip at the moment but nevertheless the lure of the Golden Slipper Festival’s ‘Ladies Day’ at Rosehill managed to draw a good crowd.
Fashions for the day were as diverse as the weather turned out to be with the outfits for the Fashion Designer Awards as varied as any. From classically styled reds and blacks to frilly pastels and a couple of 50’s inspired stunners it’s gratifying to note that at least some Australian designers are putting class back into race wear.
The 2009 Fashion Designer Award was won by perennial race day fashionista Angela Menz.
Of course, for race days, hats are the stars and whoever decreed that felt hats were the go in a still warm March in Australia is certainly struggling to get the message across with the Sydney crowd – and rightly so. With the Aussie weather still dictating light dressing it’s a milliner’s challenge to design a felt hat that doesn’t look like it is being worn simply because someone said it must be.
