Golden Soil depicts a golden kickback in Australian history
Golden Soil a play written by Carol Dance and Directed by Alana Simpson chronicles a piece of Australian history that was anything but golden. Golden Soil is woven around a fictional family that becomes embroiled in the notorious ‘Wheat Board scandal’ where the Board paid kickbacks to sell Australian wheat in Iraq.
The cast, made up of Karen Cobban, Christopher Darling, Neveen Hanna, Tim Hunter, Peter McAllum and Paul Pavlakis, all gave performances that were believable and drew us into their anguish as the events unfolded.
Featuring Bruce Petty cartoons specially created for ‘Golden Soil’ this story argues that in the game of kickbacks, Australia was the winner – or was it. The moral issues covered here are on a higher scale than currently being bandied around by our campaigning pollies in their race to also be ‘winners’.
Golden Soil is playing at the Parade Space, Parade Theatres Fri 6, Wed 11, Thurs 12, Fri 13, Sat 14 August 2010 all at 8pm Further Details
