MiSociety asked Graeme Goldberg, proprietor of “Dee Bee’s” at Double Bay, to tell us, out of all the notable people he has met (and been photographed with) during his career, which ones would he take to the proverbial ‘desert island’. “My wife, Brigitte” was Graeme’s immediate answer before agonising over the rest.
Graeme Goldberg was a 5 star hotelier for over 40 years, operating hotels in the U.K. New Zealand and throughout Australia. He is now the owner of the iconic café – restaurant Dee Bee’s in the heart of fashionable Double Bay in Sydney. The walls of this buzzy establishment are covered with photos of Graeme with the ‘who’s who’ of world wide entertainment and politics.
Graeme says “Dee Bee’s is a remarkable place, to some a café, to others a restaurant or bistro, office and community centre, we open at 7.30am and close at 2am – every single day and night of the year, we only close so we can clean the joint”.
“Regulars include, Barry Humphries, Leo Sayer, Sam Neill, Kyle Sutherlands and Jimmy Barnes to mention a few. Anyone visiting Sydney, seems to drop in for some good old fashioned hospitality - just ask Bob Dylan, Englebert Humpledink, Roy Thomas, Delta Goodrem and Suzie Quatro. You never know who will walk through the door.”
