Harbour Rocks Hotel throws a re-opening party fit for any HRH
Ruth and Bob Magid, owners of the Harbour Rocks Hotel, hosted a glittering celebrity studded party to re-launch their 1887 heritage listed hotel. On entering the hotel to the strains of the Sydney Symphony Quartet we were warmly greeted by Ruth Magid whose enthusiasm about the outcome of the extensive refurbishment is well warranted.
Victor Valdes, a harpist of international acclaim, strummed from within the hotel’s courtyard terrace prior to Richard Wilkins welcoming speech to guests after which Bob Magid presented ‘awards’ to those who had helped transform the hotel to an entirely new level.
David Campbell, along with his wife Lisa, was in attendance and later entertained guests in the penthouse suite with its fabulous views over Sydney. The party continued well past the designated finish time as David continued to lead a fun ‘singalong’ making this a real party to remember.
Ruth Magid proudly told MiSociety that her and husband Bob’s dream for the Harbour Rocks Hotel was to create accommodation in Sydney in the style of European cities. The Harbour Rocks Hotel’s transformation is certainly extensive yet still preserves the character of this historical gem in the heart of Sydney’s The Rocks area.
HRH Wine Bar, the private Dining Room and Boardroom are wonderfully atmospheric with original sandstone walls that still bear the scratched initials of the convicts who laid them.
The Harbour Rocks Hotel with its 59 rooms also houses the 40 seat Scarlett Restaurant named after ‘Scarlett’, a lady of the night who once inhabited the hotel. It is said that Scarlett’s rebuffed suitor has haunted the corridors in days past – what would a nineteenth century building in Sydney be without its own ghost.
