* SYDNEY History Week Dee Why
History Week when fashionistas will be able to enjoy a trip down memory lane when Warringah Council celebrates History Week.
- 8-16 September 2012
- Dee Why Library and the Civic Centre
Threads in Warringah – Dressing up, dressing down will showcase what locals wore at work and play in the past. From neck- to-knees to bikinis and board shorts, from formal finery to well-worn workwear. See what Warringah wore!
Look out for the banners outside Dee Why Library showing styles of past decades.
There will be an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia from the 1800s to the 1980s – including the iconic ‘Chesty Bond’ and a fashion timeline.
The exhibition takes place from 8-16 September at Dee Why Library and the Civic Centre and explores the meaning behind the wardrobes of the past.
“The exhibition highlights how the environment affected what locals wore, particularly our relaxed outdoor lifestyle” said Tina Graham, Warringah Council’s Local Studies librarian.
“This exhibition gave us a chance to take a fresh look at the library’s historical image collection. Some themes that jumped out at us were fancy dress, people have always loved dressing up, dramatic changes in hemlines and the importance of the hat in everyday life.”Share
