Ian Thorpe by Charles Billich attracts Sydney’s ‘Movers and Shakers‘ to an Art Spangled Night.
Ian Thorpe is a name very few Australians would be unaware of. Charles Billich is a name that very few in the art world (both in Australia and internationally) would be unaware of, so, when both these high profile Australians collaborated on a project the ‘event’ that heralded it was sure to be an affair of ‘Olympian’ proportions.
A fact about Ian Thorpe that many may be unaware of is the work he has done over the last ten years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families through the Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for Youth charity. Charles Billich threw his mighty paintbrushes behind Ian’s charity by creating a painting of Ian with the proceeds of the prints from the work going to the Ian Thorpe Fountain for Youth.
Charles’ painting of Ian was unveiled at the Billich Gallery in The Rocks where many of Sydney’s ‘movers and shakers’, socialites and media gathered for an excellent night of great company and wonderful hospitality in this fabulous historical building.
