Independent Music Centre celebrates 2012 program in Sydney’s redressed grand old Dame of a theatre
The Independent Theatre, now all newly re-sparkled, played host to the launch of The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust (AETT) 2012 Independent Music Centre season.
The Independent Theatre in Miller Street, North Sydney is Sydney’s oldest Edwardian theatre and has entertained Sydney for 100 years. During 2011 The Trust completed the final stage of upgrades transforming the grand old theatre into a world-class music venue with outstanding acoustics.
The 2012 concert program (available on-line at www.theindependent.org.au) features more than 50 performances, representing the latest bold initiative from The Trust to create opportunities for artists to perform in an outstanding chamber music venue.
AETT General Manager Warwick Ross announced the full 2012 program highlighting the concert and performance seasons of The Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Independent Opera, Musica Viva, The New Sydney Wind Quintet, The Sonus Piano Quartet, the Strelitzia Piano Trio, the Seraphim Trio and a regular Actors’ Forum.
Residents of and visitors to, North Sydney, Greater Sydney and New South Wales should marvel at the ingenuity and creativity of both the management at this veritable venue of excellence and the diversity of talent that will be performing throughout 2012.
A VIP and arts ‘who’s who’ joined Mayor of North Sydney Genia McCaffery and AETT Chairman The Hon Lloyd Waddy AM in celebrating the exciting 2012 program of Sydney’s newest and oldest music venue! MiSociety was delighted to meet up again with internationally renowned flautist Jane Rutter who also attended this terrific launch night.
The 200 plus invited guests were also treated to an evening of live performance, encouragingly featuring an up and coming talent, flautist Chelsea Witham along with some stirring opera favourites from members of the Sydney Independent Opera.
We, the general public, should treasure and support institutions like The Independent and The Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust (AETT) because apart from all their educational work they provide thumpingly great entertainment
