Art Equity Gallery Sydney, a Parisian-esque vista, artist James Robertson and The Balvenie combine for an exhibition opening night to invigorate the senses
James Robertson’s latest exhibition at Sydney’s Art Equity Gallery drew a large expectant audience for the opening night of his ‘Into the Distance’ art series – and they were clearly not disappointed. Guests were ‘blown away’ by James’ sweeping, atmospheric skyscapes incorporating his use of figures, often humorous, who offer a poignant commentary on our contemporary society.
Art Equity Gallery Sydney exhibits fine art works to a unique background view of Sydney’s Martin Place that had many at the James Robertson exhibition opening night likening the vista to a Parisian streetscape.
Ralph Hobbs, Art Director at Art Equity Gallery, introduced James Robertson to guests and gave an insight into the art traditions that James draws upon and the continuing evolution of his work. Ralph also invited Robertson to give his own perspective on this exhibition and how he arrived at producing this body of work. James also gave much credit to the encouragement and “push” he has received from fellow artist, friend and Archibald Finalist 2011, Jeremy Kibel.
Art collectors and viewers in today’s world seek more from galleries than ‘just letting the art speak for itself’. People increasingly want to know more about the artists’ technique, craft and the philosophy behind their work – Art Equity is one of the few Sydney galleries meeting this demand.
The Balvenie Scotch Whisky, sponsor for the James Robertson exhibition opening night, also had their own expert on hand to supplement the very popular tastings of their whisky with knowledge on the ‘art’ and tradition behind the single malt 12 and 15 year aged ‘The Balvenie’.
James Robertson ‘Into the Distance’ exhibition continues at Art Equity Gallery until 30 September 2011.
