The greatest show of generosity on earth- The Kids Under Cover Charity Ball 2011
Melbourne’s Crown Palladium was the venue for an exquisite three course dinner framed by an exciting circus themed night filled with talented performances and circus stunts by the gifted artists from Circa NICA and Circus Oz. Rocking performances by Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows and the novelty of the Hocking Stuart photo booth with costume gags and all rounded out a fabulous night.
The focus of the night was to help raise enough funds to build a Kids Under Cover studio bungalow for a young person in need, through the Kids Under Cover Studio Program. Quality items for the main auction and silent auction were generously donated by a number of small businesses and major organisations.
Sarah Davies, Chair of Kids Under Cover, gave a heart warming address early in the evening followed by the presentation of the ‘Under Cover Angel Award’, presented to The Portland House Foundation on behalf of Genevieve Timmins.
The Weston family story touched us all when father of the family, Stuart Weston, came on stage to relate his family’s story and to tell us about the continual assistance he, his wife and his five children have received over many years by receiving scholarships through The Kids Under Cover Scholarship Program. Following Stuart’s honest and humbling speech, we were then happily surprised by one of his sons, Ellery Weston, who performed an acoustic song he wrote and dedicated to Kids Under Cover. Ellery received a rousing standing ovation; not just because of his grateful gesture, but because his song and performing abilities were seriously good. We wish young Ellery all the best as he follows his dreams, as he certainly demonstrated natural talent as a song writer, singer and live performer.
There were many celebrities and distinguished guests in attendance including Robert Davidov, Joshua Durant, Jenna, Tania and Rod from Channel Nine’s ‘The Block’ and principal artists from the Australian Ballet, Amber Scott and Adam Bull. Prominent government officials and business identities were also in attendance headed up by The Hon Wendy Lovell, Minister for Housing and Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development and CEO of Kids Under Cover’s principal partner Hocking Stuart, Nigel O’Neil.
Well done to all involved - this is an event for everyone to mark in their calendars for next year.
