Harvey Puts Hart Into Art
Lindy Hart, muse and wife of Frederick Hart, master sculptor and recipient of the U.S. National Medal of the Art, made her only Australian public appearance at the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery in Seaforth NSW whilst she was in the country on a private visit.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the gallery’s invited guests to not only view a collection of Frederick’s works, but to also meet and to have an audience with Lindy Hart as she told of her life with the artist.
Lindy spoke for over an hour with great insight also including some humorous anecdotes about her life with the great Frederick Hart, who she fondly referred to as ‘Rick’. Lindy conveyed stories of Frederick’s artistic milestones including ‘The Creation Sculptures’ on the façade of Washington National Cathedral and one of the most visited monuments in Washington D.C. Hart’s heroic bronze statue ‘Three Soldiers’.
Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery guests were offered a rare and intimate view of Frederick Hart who is one of the greats of twentieth century art. It is not often that we get the opportunity to learn the real story behind great artists and here we could also see for ourselves the grace and charm of this artist’s muse, Lindy, who so inspired Frederick.
Central to Frederick Hart’s philosophy concerning public sculptures, Lindy explained, was his question “what is the value, meaning and contribution to society of any particular public sculpture?”
Lindy Hart, following a lively question and answer forum, joined in with guests who stayed on at the gallery for the traditional Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery Christmas drinks. Everyone was further given the opportunity to chat with Lindy and to meet the members of her family who have come together in Australia for Christmas 2011.
MiSociety was particularly delighted to meet Lindy as we have been admirers of Hart’s awe inspiring sculptures which we had been fortunate to view previously at the Trevor Victor Harvey Gallery. Lindy was wonderful company and share with us an insight into her new life now that she has moved to Washington D.C.
Trevor Harvey and his team, once again, put on an event that marks this Gallery as a beacon of artistic light and innovation on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and for the wider Sydney public.
