http://www.trybooking.com/DXGG

The Hipstones are home for one special show with their Aussie Band. Now based in Brooklyn NY, they have their third album of original soul  music coming out in March 2014. They’ve built their songs from the basics of Jazz, soul and funk to become their own. With a three piece horn section and funky rhythm section, Anthea and Mark singing their two part harmonies and flowing melodies, The Hipstones uniquely execute a sound they simply call SOUL.

All Star aussie band includes
Tim Firth – drums
James Haselwood – Bass
Matthew Ottignon – Tenon
Simon Ferenci – Trumpet
James Loughan – Tenor
Mark Palmer – vocals, compositions, arrangements and piano
Anthea White – vocals, compositions, arrangements and micro korg

The Hipstones are soul with a capital S. Soul that soothes. Soul that grooves. And Soul that moves. With an eye to the classic R&B sounds of the 1960’s, the duo of Mark Palmer (keys/vocals) and Anthea White (vocals) have shaped a sonic identity all their own. From the streets of Tokyo to the stage of the Sydney Opera house; from Australia to the musical depths of the New York City, the Hipstones have established themselves as one of the premier soul bands on the scene today.

With their eight-piece powerhouse ensemble tearing up New York’s funkiest clubs, Mark Palmer and Anthea White have built a sound that’s just a little bit Marvin Gaye, and a whole lot modern day. Their latest album, Dreamers (2010), is a testament to their unique vision and mastery of all things jazz, soul, funk and reggae. It’s an album that is sophisticated yet accessible, subtle yet strong. A record that is rich in lush harmonies and grounded in the duo’s undeniable songwriting talent.

With their impressive wealth of musical influences, The Hipstones manage to not only pay homage to the past, but to also define a kind of future. A future built on world-class music and an undeniable band. A future born from their storied international lineage. A future with a capital F.

Saturday 21 December – Free the Beats Xmas Party
FREE ENTRY

Freethebeats, Australia’s largest collective of forward thinking electronica producers has come a long way since its inception in 2009. True to their pioneering nature and in recognition of the multitude of soundscapes traversed over the last four years, they are celebrating the landmark tenth volume of their beat compilations in truly evolutionary fashion.

Within the discerning walls of Sydney’s jazz institution Venue 505, Freethebeats is creating a new monthly evening to foster an ongoing relationship between the Australian electronica, jazz and hip hop communities. The night will be an ambient-glitch-hop-break-beat-instrumental freewheeling embodiment of the ideals the compilation has always stood for: improvisation, experimentation, collaboration and innovation.

Redefining live music and stimulating people’s perceptions of genre, the first night on August 15th will be headlined by members of SVELT (11pm) and showcase live acts incorporating synthesizers, drum machines, samples, violin, trumpet and live drums.

Best of all, the unwavering commitment of the collective to solidify Australia in the foreground of the international music scene and their desire for the fruits of this labour to remain accessible to the public, sees entry to this event remaining FREE – a generous gesture given the calibre of talent on display. In return, all they ask is for you to turn up and show some support for the artists, so this truly unique and culturally valuable event can continue to serve both musicians and fans alike.

505 at 280 Cleveland St Surry Hills, live music Mon-Sat, www.venue505.com
