Madame Tussard’s Sydney – where interaction is the name of the game
Waxworks museum in Sydney! MiSociety pondered, while negotiating Sydney’s Darling Harbour on our way to the Official Launch party of Madame Tussauds, as to whether, amongst the kaleidoscope of things to do in Sydney, locals and tourists would really be that enthused about a concept from 1770. We entered, we gasped and then giggled as we were suddenly thrust amongst a myriad of wax figures jovially mingling amongst guests.
John Howard and Julia Gillard stood menacingly close to each other as President Obama resided in his Oval Office allowing all and sundry to access both him and his telephone. Looking on stood the Dali Llama and Nelson Mandela amongst others. And this was just room one of the labyrinth of areas separately housing 70 figures consisting of Australian sports stars, entertainers, literary giants, medical masters and more plus international figures from several genres.
Madam Tussauds Sydney, Divisional Director Australia & New Zealand Merlin Entertainments, Edward Fuller, enthused to MiSociety that ‘Tussauds’ Sydney, the 13th to be opened globally, is the best in the world.
Amanda Keller was voted ‘people’s choice’ for inclusion to become a waxwork creation. When Amanda first saw the completed replica of herself she was moved to tears and naturally very eager to show her model to her dad Arthur and hubby Harley this night. Ruth and Rosa Hollows, twin daughters of legendary Ophthalmologist Fred Hollows, confided that it had taken a little to get used to seeing their dad life size as he had tragically passed away when they were just six years old.
Interaction is now the name of the game at ‘The Madame’s. Watching the kids ‘play tennis’ with Lew Hoad and Lleyton Hewitt was a delight, as was surveying their parents (and everyone else) playing and posing for photographs with their favourite ‘idols’.
Madame Tussauds in Sydney official launch party was hugely entertaining with an enthusiastic crowd of some 250 guest who all seriously got into the fun of it all.
