Malaysia Kitchen Launch Sydney

Chinta Ria, Jackie M, Mamak and Sambal serve up an extraordinary Malaysian banquet at one very long table – wish they did take out!
The Malaysia Kitchen Sydney launch saw MiSociety treated to seats at the longest table in Sydney (if not the country) along with 80 or so other guests for a very special gastronomical experience. Delicious dish after dish of some of the most amazing Malaysian food to be had anywhere was served as we were entertained by a magical Malaysian dance troupe.
Tasty canapés were plentiful before we were all seated at the huge long table that began to groan under the weight of the entrees, mains and desserts that followed. Stunning diverse Malaysian dishes all with tantilising taste ranges and combinations of flavours, the memory of which still lingers. Hmm, wish they could ferry me over a take out right now!
Malaysia Kitchen is a public event and a celebration of some of Sydney’s finest Malaysian restaurants including Chinta Ria, Mamak, Sambal, Kuali Malaysian Restaurant, Kaki Lima, Malacca Straits on Broadway, Jimmy’s Recipe and Jackie M.
Malaysia Kitchen is tucked in behind Sydney’s State Theatre along a cute crooked laneway and heralded only by a blackboard proclaiming it’s existence for just three days. With a canopy of coloured lanterns, wall collages and light installations the inviting space creates a delightful ’market place’ feel.
Malaysia Kitchen is an initiative from the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation with the aim to increase us Aussies’ awareness of the taste sensations and diversity of Malaysian fare. Australia is just one of the many countries involved in the ‘Malaysia Kitchen’ campaign that will spread to our other states.
The participating restaurants at the launch event were Chinta Ria, Jackie M, Mamak and Sambal – and they all impressed. Our favourite dishes on the night? We would really struggle to say but a little hint – next time you are at a good Malaysian restaurant be sure to keep some space for a dip into their dessert menu.
For just $10 entry the public can enjoy four tasting plates from the participating restaurants only until Friday 18 February 2011, but the promotion is going to other states so stay tuned and we will let you know when and where.
