Manly Jazz Festival 2013 – the greatest names in music putting the Vibe back into Jazz!

  • Saturday 5 – Monday 7 October 2013

Lionel Cole takes to the stage for the Manly Jazz Festival 2013.  From a storied musical family, Lionel is the nephew of Nat King Cole, the cousin of Natalie Cole and the son of Grammy nominated jazz vocalist Freddy Cole.

John Morrison also features at the 2013 ‘Manly Jazz’ .  John Morrison is a renowned drummer and all-round ‘jazz rascal’. John is appearing with songbird Jacki Cooper and one of Australia’s classiest and finest guitarist, the legendary George Golla.

Much attention will be focused on 19-year-old vocalist Liam Burrows, the prodigiously gifted 2011 ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ grand finalist who was named the Australian Music Industry ‘Music Oz Awards’ Best Jazz Artist for 2012.

Liam will perform with talented and world renowned reed player, Andy Firth and his powerhouse, ‘Big Band’.

Award winning vocalist Emma Pask will be performing with her Emma Pask Quartet, fresh from her recent success on ‘The Voice’.  Invited by Ricky Martin to record a track with him on his forthcoming album, Emma was hailed by James Morrison as “the greatest gift to Australian jazz vocals in the last decade.”

‘Manly Jazz’ also features hundreds of Australian and other international jazz artists, most performing free to the public, the action taking place in 10 official venues (many outdoors) alongside Manly’s rolling, 2.4 kilometre (1.5-mile) Pacific beach.

Warwick Alder will lead a collection of talented musicians recreating two iconic jazz albums, ‘Birth of the Blues’ (Miles Davis Nonet, 1957) and ‘The Blues & The Abstract Truth’ (Oliver Nelson, 1961).  Both albums are seminal in the history of Jazz. Manly Jazz brings them to you at 7.45pm, Sunday 6 October at the Star of the Sea Theatre, corner of Iluka and Collingwood Streets, Manly. Cost: $45 ($30 concessions). Book at www.manlyjazz.com.au or call 9976 1752.
