MCA’s Winter Exhibitions
The Winter 09 Season was launched this week at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art to an eclectic crowd and with the venue back lit in the symbolic winter colour of lavender.
The MCA’s Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor announced that there had been a fantastic attendance of 174,000 for the summer season and then heralded the current exciting yet varied current feature exhibitions including; ‘Rising Tide: Film and Video Works from the MCA Collection’, ‘Ricky Maynard: Portrait Of A Distant Land and Revealing Moments in TIme’.
The guest speaker was Gerald McMaster, the man who has been a huge influence on the direction of Native art in Canada and also a tireless champion of the Aboriginal voice and presence in contemporary Canadian art. Gerald concluded by performing a beautiful, haunting Inuit vocal work.
