The legendary Sun Ra Arkestra returns to Melbourne this weekend for a performance “invoking every kind of soul food from doo-wop to hip-hop inside a multi-dimensional universe of swing” (The Age).

Under the direction of the only remaining original member, the mesmerising multi-reeds player Marshall Allen, Ra’s ensemble has continued performing ever since, bringing to life Sun Ra’s inimitable vision that incorporates elements of black vaudeville, modern dance, Egyptian cosmology, Eastern philosophy, numerology, surrealism, kitsch, and the Bible.

Don’t miss this iconic big band of “Tone Scientists” as they take you on an innovative, subversive and swinging exploration of cosmic sounds across the musical galaxy and beyond.
