What’s on in Melbourne Theatre – The White Garden

December 9th, 2011

Fly-On-The-Wall Theatre and Chapel Off Chapel present as part of 2012 Midsumma the Australian Premiere rehearsed reading of “The White Garden”. Written by Adrienne Perry, directed by Danny Delahunty.

  • Sunday, 05 February 2012 – 2pm (one performance only)

In 1921, Vita Sackville-West + Violet Trefusis had an lesbian affair that rocked Edwardian society. To dispel further scandal, Violet left for Paris, + Vita threw herself into a life as a novelist, gardener + diplomat’s wife. She also wrote a nasty little book, which implied Violet had betrayed her. Years later, it has been a hell of a day. Vita is already unnerved by an early morning suicide attempt from her houseguest, Virginia Woolf. Now she must face her past when an unexploded bomb forces the expatriate Violet to take refuge in her house too, the very fortress she has built to protect herself is about to come down.
