First Montreux Jazz Café opens in Sydney
Caprioskas, Moët and Stiegl beer flowed all night long at the opening of the very first Montreux Jazz Café outside of Switzerland - at the Sydney International Airport.
The Montreux Jazz Café launch party saw an eclectic mix of guests ranging from international corporate high flyers to local music and television personalities. Guests enjoyed a fantastic fusion of food prepared by Michelin Chef Gilles Dupont including traditional Swiss cusine and dishes created in honour of Jazz legends including mini BB (King) Burgers and Ella (Fitgerald) Cheesecake.
Australia’s own Montreux Jazz Festival winner, Kristin Berardi headed up the live entertainment that included performances by the fabulous Katie Noonan and her band the Captains performing songs from her new album.
In between guests enjoyed seeing rare archival footage of some of the world’s greatest bands who have peformed at Montreux on the café’s play box. The Montreux Jazz Festival library is the largest testimony of live music recorded on the same stage, capturing the peformances of more than 4,000 bands over the past 43 years – and a state of the art audio visual system which plays highlights is a feature of the café.
