Michael Zavros’ winning work: Phoebe Is Dead/McQueen. (State Library of NSW: The Artist)
Michael Zavros was last years runner-up and this year was recognised for his is the winner of the 2010 $150,000 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.
Zavros, who was last year’s runner up, has been recognised for his painting of a young girl’s corpse draped in a black sheet covered in skulls entitled Phoebe Is Dead/McQueen. His work was chosen from 35 finalists.
Dean Sewell won the $80,000 Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize for his Cockatoo Is Ferry. This is the second consecutive year Sewell has won this prize.Share
