Mr & Mrs Smith can really tell you where to go
The Mr and Mrs Smith story goes that a couple caught in the bloom of romance tippy-toed off for a romantic escape where they assumed they would be indulging in lazy days, good food and wine, luxurious massages and each other. Upon arrival at the ‘Spa’ they were ‘weighed in’, had their blood pressure taken and put on a strict diet of bean sprouts and water – no lavish - or ravish. While attempting to drown this disaster at the local pub (the only place around with alcohol) the couple, Tamara and James Lohan first hit on the idea for the Mr & Mrs Smith informative ‘Hotel Collection’.
The concept of ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ (the pseudonym names once used by couples wanting to remain anonymous to accommodation houses) is they seek out and report on the world’s most fabulous and glamorous boutique holiday spots around the world. Five years, many publications and an online service covering the UK and Europe later Mr & Mrs Smith have now landed down under and their first port of call was the grand Ivy Penthouse apartment for the launch party of their Australasia arm.
MiSociety has to say the Ivy Penthouse is gorgeous and the perfect setting to showcase the arrival of The Smith’s in Australia. Organised by Liquid Ideas the launch party was attended by celebrity chef Jason Roberts who is just back from a cooking tour of LA and who, after 18 years in the kitchen, recently sliced his hand for the first time. In good form was Terry Schwamberg, owner of the Medusa Hotel in Darlinghurst (a favourite bed down spot for visiting film and rock stars). Victoria and Raemon McEwen, who have in their stable of luxurious boutique accommodation houses the superlative Victoria’s at Wategos, ‘helicoptered’ into Sydney to join the festivities.
Thoughts of hiding under the bed with the hope of being locked in the Ivy penthouse apartment for the night did surface but, alas, we thought it best to venture back out into the hard reality of the city pavement.Share
