MUSIC – Sydney Opera House: Beginners Guide to Messiah

December 13, 2009

*

  • Time: 2pm
  • Guest Conductor: Former PM Bob Hawke!

Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke will join award winning actor Miriam Margolyes and Artistic and Musical Director Brett Weymark on stage for this entertaining and informative performance, providing a beginner’s introduction to the best-loved choruses from the widely acclaimed Christmas favourite Handel’s Messiah.
Just days after his 80th Birthday, Mr Hawke will don his tails and wield baton to conduct the 500-member Messiah Choir, encouraging people of all ages to sing along to the iconic pieces of festive music including the roof raising Hallelujah chorus.
It’s not often that families are asked to sing with one of Australia ’s finest choral groups in one of the world’s finest performance venues. Nor are they offered the opportunity to be conducted by a former Prime Minister of Australia – but this is exactly the invitation that Sydney Philharmonia Choirs is extending to the audience for a very special performance of The Beginner’s Guide to Messiah.
