Images of Australian Icons bring new life to Messiah
Choral lovers are unlikely to associate Bondi Beach , Robert Menzies, Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Dog on the Tuckerbox with Handel’s Messiah, yet images of these Australian icons will feature prominently in Sydney Philharmonia Choirs’ inventive new presentation of the oratorio.
Australia’s largest choral organisation has recruited acclaimed photographer Robert McGrath to provide a thought-provoking visual backdrop to its traditional end-of-year concert at Sydney Opera House on Thursday 10 December, Saturday 12 December, and Sunday 13 December.
Delving into his own archive of photos, McGrath has assembled a uniquely Australian slide show that will soar on the big screen behind the 450-voice Messiah Choir as they remarkably perform Handel’s near-three hour masterpiece entirely by memory.
