Dine with NSW Wine – support NSW (and your taste buds)
The Sydney Morning Herald NSW Wine Festival is off and running again and to launch the event for 2011 the who’s who behind the promotion of NSW Wine went underground at the Sydney’s Crystal Bar.
The NSW Wine Festival has now become such a high profile and well attended event that it’s previous time frame of a week no longer suffices and now all you wine and food devotees have an entire month to enjoy the fruits of NSW being showcased. Then, of course, you have the other eleven months to further seek out NSW wines from the shelves.
As per the tradition of the launching of the NSW Wine Festival event, each tantilising tasting course with it’s fabulous matching wine on offer, was heralded to guests by the ‘ringing of the bell’.
The cheese station with it’s selection of regional NSW cheeses and produce was difficult to walk away from. The quality of these cheeses was so good it’s a quandry to note the stand outs but the ‘Wicked’ Blue from Small Cow and the Binmorie ‘Brie Delice’ were stunning.
NSW wines really are outstanding and it’s some of the smaller regional areas that are really coming to the fore. The Climbing Orange Sauvignon Blanc, a favourite from last year’s launch, shone again along with the Scarborough Hunter Valley Yellow Label Chardonnay 2007 and the Cookoothama Riverina Botrytris Semillon 2007.
Not surprising then, as we learned on the night, that seven out of every ten bottles of wine now purchased in NSW is produced within the state.
The 2011 NSW Wine Festival kicks off with the hugely popular Sydney Cellar Door event at Sydney’s Hyde Park that this year runs over both Saturday and Sunday 26-27 February 2011. Following on from this weekend are events all over Sydney made up of ‘Tour of the Regions’ degustation dinners at some of Sydney’s very finest restaurants and produced by our top chefs. Naturally all events will be accompanied by the cream of NSW wines.
